1 Corinthians 13 (part 4)

Picking up in vs 11
The word child is this verse means babe. Same as when identifying characteristics of "babes in Christ" back in 1 Corinthians 3:1 where there was congregational divisions so it follows here that the misuse of spiritual Gifts instead of glorifying god and building up churches lead instead to division and even very obvious sin.

vs 12 This verse is talking about the completed Scriptures being like a mirror. showing us as we are and encouraging us to make the changes we need.

vs 13 The gift of Faith and Hope and Love will continue until Christ comes again at that time we will have no need for faith and hope for we will have seen that which we had faith and hoped in ..
Love however will continue forever.

1 Corinthians 13 (part 3)

First off I wanted to make note of Charity = Love It is not a romantic love or anything as the world think of the word love these days, It is an agape love, more like a generous and unselfish concern for others.

Now Thinking of vs 1
"Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal."
This is talking of speaking in tongues. Back in chapter 12 Paul was telling them about "a more excellent way" to manifest Christ than by ones spiritual gifts(2 Corinthians 12:31) Then He started Chapter 13 talking about tongues probably because this gift was being misused in the Corinthian Churches.

vs 2&3
Both bring up the word nothing without true christian charity(love) I both am nothing and have nothing.

vs 4-7 Interesting fact that "charity" or agape love is defined by what it does not what it is.. that is something to think on a little more later on.

vs8 In this verse the word fail means vanish away and cease means simply comes to an end. According to this.. all of these supernatural gifts would be useless and would therefore be taken away by the Holy Spirit.

vs9 The gift of knowledge and prophecy at the time was only part of what God intended for his people to know.. However more was coming though the varies apostles and prophets.

vs10 This is where I think some people get confused.."That which is perfect" some think this means Christ 2nd coming but "that is a neuter pronoun not being masculine or feminine..Therefore can't be talking about Christ. Since the vs before this was talking about the incompleteness of the divine revelation "That which is perfect(completed)refers to the completion of the Bible.
Thought the completion of the Bible we now have everything we need to guide the church and all that we need to its power, so that supernatural gifts and miraculous signs are no longer needed
This is where I"m stopping for today.

1 Corinthians 13 (part 2)

When I read this 3 things seem to stand out to me.

The 1st comes in Verses 1-3
In Today's world and in today's churches you can find alot of smooth talkers and alot of people who has alot of wisdom of the Bible or maybe they just think they do but as God points out none of that will mean a thing if they have not love. People will look at them and say "yea right sure you love he Lord, right???" Because they have no love to share with others

The 2nd comes in verse 4-7
It tells us what love is and isn't so that we can learn and understand the kind of Love the Lord wants us to have. Long suffering, not evnyus, not proud, behave itself will, not worried about self, so on and so on..

The 3rd is in verses 8-13
It talks about how before with prophecies and toungs how they were here before the Bible was finished. That is the knowing in part, part.. But those gifts faded away.. went away no longer are around since the Perfect word of God was completed.. What we are left with is Faith, Hope, and Love. God tells us the greatest of these are love. Love is the key to ministering to others and people can tell if that love is real or fake.. If we truly don't show love tot he people we are trying to minister to, why will they listen why would the world want what we have if all we care about is our self. Sure we can have our faith and hope but what good will it do us if people won't listen because in there eyes we are cold and uncaring.

1 Corinthians 13 (part 1)

(remember these are just the thoughts I had when I had them.. the Part 1, part 2 whatever is days.. some verses I spent more days on then others. so part 1 could also read day 1)
1 Corinthians 13
1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.
3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.
4 Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.
10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.
11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
13 And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.

The 2nd week of this Bible study we looked at 1 Corinthians 13

Sometimes know as the love Chapter
In This God is telling us about the gifts that he has given, some of them he has taken away some of them still remains But be it the gifts that are no longer here or the ones that are, the greatest of all is Love and without love the rest of the gifts mean nothing.
Iron clad Truths in this chapter are one No matter what gift we might have if we don't have love we are nothing and our gifts means nothing. And two Love never fails. where others gifts have been taken away by God like the gifts of prophecies , or tongues and even knowledge will Fade. Love doesn't fade.

It is Love alone which gives ministry of gifts any value.
